Help Your Child Have A Smooth Start
- School begins right at 8:30. We begin our work (and play) right away so we don't lose a precious minute. Please do your best to have your child arrive on time.
- Arrival plans: First Graders can begin to be dropped off on the front playground at 8:15. Please be aware that the playground is not supervised until then. I will be outside early on the first few days of school and there will be a sign directing you to our spot to line up. We will go inside at 8:30 sharp to begin our day. In the event of rain, children will be directed inside to the gym. Please let me know any ways I might be able to help you or your child with his or her transition to school.
- Dismissal plans: Please be sure to fill out the Parent Questionnaire as soon as possible. The Dismissal Information page has all of the specific details you will need for dismissal. Please note that for safety reasons we must see the person responsible for pick up before we can release your child.
- Please send your child with a regular sized backpack. It is important to have a backpack large enough to accommodate the folder I will send in it each day as well as sneakers, library books and projects being returned home. It may also be helpful to send extra clothes; if your child gets wet or is uncomfortable when clothes get messy, or sometimes needs a cozy layer, please consider this. Extra clothes can be stored in your child's lockers. Please help your child to avoid bringing extra "stuff" or home toys that could get lost or broken or take up too much space in the backpack.
- Please send a nutritious snack and drink or water bottle. We have snack every day at around 10:00 for no more than 15 minutes. (Make sure to start the day with a good breakfast!)
- Your child may bring lunch or obtain lunch in the lunch room. Monthly lunch menus can be found on this site (under Nuts & Bolts) or the WPS website. Please discuss which choices your child will be making daily so he or she knows what to choose upon arrival in our classroom. Lunches from home may contain peanuts or tree nuts as this is carefully monitored in the lunch room.
- Lastly, and most importantly, I welcome the opportunity to work closely with you so your child has the best possible year. Please let me know anything that might impact your child's learning, and likewise, I will let you know anything I observe that may help you. The more proactive we can be together, the better the first grade experience will be for your child!
